Dick Delson & Associates, the Hollywood-based
entertainment public relations firm specializing in public relations,
advertising, promotions and marketing, has participated in the representation
of hundreds of motion pictures and television projects. Firm principal,
Dick Delson, who has worked as a public relations executive for
such major companies as Walt Disney Productions, Filmways Pictures,
MCA, Inc./Universal Pictures, Columbia, CBS, ABC, TV Guide and others,
has supervised the press activities of hundreds of major motion
pictures, independent films, television series and specials involving
campaigns for Oscars & Golden Globes in the Academy Award competitions
of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and the Hollywood
Foreign Press Association.
In addition, he has been involved in numerous campaigns
for the Directors Guild of America Awards, the Writers Guild of
America Awards, Producers Guild Awards, Casting Society Awards,
Screen Actors Guild Awards, Art Directors Guild Awards, British
Academy of Film & Television Awards and Independent Film Awards.
He has also managed campaigns for the Emmy Awards, TV Academy Awards
and Television Academy Hall of Fame Awards.
Special Movie Projects 1998-2003:
Delson has been a major part of the Academy Award
campaign PR team for Miramax Films from 1998 through 2003. During
that 5-year period Miramax has been represented with 11 successive
Best Picture Academy Award nominations, winning three Best Picture
Oscars for "Chicago," "Shakespear in Love" and
"The English Patient." Its other Best Picture Academy
Award nominees during that period were "In the Bedroom,"
"Chocolate," "The Cider House Rules," "Good
Will Hunting," "Il Postino," "Pulp Fiction,"
"The Piano" and "The Crying Game." Also during
this period, Miramax was represented with 14 Best Foreign Language
Film Academy Award nominations, winning three for "Kolya"
('96), "Farewell My Concubine" ('93) and "Mediterraneo"
('91). Its other Best Foreign Language Film nominees during this
period were "Amelie," "Everybody Famous!," "Taste
of Others," "The Grandfather," "Four Days in
September," "Beyond Silence," "Ridicule,"
"The Star Maker," "Strawberry and Chocolate"
and "Close to Eden." During the years that the firm has
participated in Academy Award campaigns, the firm has garnered a
cumulative 94 nominations resulting in a total of 33 wins.
In the 2002 awards year, motion picture clients
scored a record cumulative 30 nominations, winning eight, including
Best Picture for "Chicago." During the previous year of
2001, their clients scored 31 Academy Award nominations, winning
five Oscars. The Academy campaigns they worked on for the year 2002
include "Chicago," "Frida" and "Gangs of
New York." In 2001 Dick Delson campaigned the films "The
Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" and "I
am Sam" for New Line Cinema; "In the Bedroom," "Amelie,"
"Iris" and "Bridget Jones's Diary" for Miramax
Films; and "Ali" for Sony Pictures. In addition, in 1998
Dick Delson successfully campaigned his client, James Coburn, into
winning a Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Other Best Picture winning
campaigns that Dick Delson has been involved with include "The
Sting," "The Deer Hunter," "Kramer vs Kramer"
and "Dances with Wolves."
